A QCD allows you to transfer funds directly from your IRA to an eligible charitable organization, rather than withdrawing the money yourself and making a separate donation.

Potential tax benefits of a QCD include:

• Reduce taxable income: Qualifying distributions are generally excluded from your taxable income.

• Benefit even if you take the standard deduction: Unlike cash donations, a QCD may offer tax benefits even if you don't itemize deductions.

• Help manage required minimum distributions (RMDs): If you are subject to RMDs, a QCD may count toward your annual requirement, potentially reducing your taxable income.

• Potentially lower other income-related costs: Reducing your adjusted gross income may help limit the taxation of Social Security benefits or income-based Medicare premium increases.
